Mine will only do about 55mph on speedo (51 gps) and the engine will top out at around 7000 rpm. Is this normal or should it be faster. There are only 900 iles on it. My buddy's 450 suzuki king quad will do around 63mph speedo.

7000 max rpm, speed sounds bang on. Remember, the KQ is lighter than your 500, also a factor.

Thanks,

We just had a discussion with a guy who said his 500 would run 65 mph. He proved it would by video, but at 65 he was turning 6960 rpm. If yours is turning 7000 you are way slow at 51. My 13 500 will run around 57-58mph at around 6500, on the rev limiter. If yours is turning 7000 your rev limiter needs looked at, and possibly your speedometer as well

I would service the clutches and put a new Polaris belt in it first, if you are that worried about it.

The EBS machines will have a higher top speed (about 65) due to the different clutches. EBS machines have a team roller secondary that allows the belt to drop lower in the secondary. Standard non EBS machines will have a top speed around 58mph. Both machines have a 6900 rpm soft limit and a hard limit at 7000.

The 2010 and older sportsmans had an entirely different trans so you cant really compare top speeds between say an 2009 and a 2013. They will be different. The older transmissions had higher gearing. In 2011 Polaris started using the Ranger transmission in the sportsmans. This is why you can hit the rev limiter so easily on the new 500s. The gearing is lower in the new trans.

The non EBS will launch off the line faster than the EBS. At least i have found this out running off the line against my friends 500 with EBS.

Thanks Thomas. That makes sense as to why I hit [email protected] 54mph.

Mine only goes about 55 but that is fast enough for me. I like having torque more than top speed. Mine is a brute when making up food plots.

My 2013 is an EBS machine, and my buddys 2010 is a non EBS machine and our top speeds are nearly identical....57-58 mph....so there goes your theory on that
