Hi there - 2011 Polaris Sportsman 500.

Having an issue where the plastic engine cover (Left side "NON-gear switch side"), is not fitting.

It falls out almost every 20 mins on the trail. I will try to describe what the problem is.

If you are standing to the left of the bike, and you are mounting the plastic cover, You slide it all the way to the left, then push in so the plastic nipple goes into the rubber hole. My situation is - I slide the plastic all the way to the left, then when i try and push in, the hole is about 1/4 of an inch to far to the right so I have to back it off and get it into the hole

MEANING - The plastic sleeves on the left side of the panel do not actually grip the sportsman shell. So it is loose ALL The time. I have tried shimmying the plastics a bit further up (the body) but they DO NOT move what so ever... I am heavily debating modding the plastic shield nippe or perhaps adding bigger over hangs so it grips the sportsman shell body..

Anyone else having these problems???

Mine is still under warranty,am going to inquire about it,and will let u all know what i find out.

It seems the hole on the body panel on the left side is about a quarter inch too far back.when u put thecover in place and plug it in the hole it pulls it back out at the front and it wont stay in position. seems to be a body misalignment thing here. not sure of how u can fix that.....yet.

Mowman you got it. The plug is to far back for the panel to stay tight. My machine is off warrenty now though so let me know what it will cost for a new panel, or to fix this!

My 2011 800 is the same way

Try using plumbers putty in notches of the cover. It will help hold the cover in place, worked on mine!!!!!

I had this problem on both sides. I removed grommet and took a 1/2" die grinder and enlarged hole toward the front of the machine. Re- inserted grommet and used some trim adhesive . This corrected my problem.
