I've had my 550 for a year with regular oil changes and really no problems. Until now. Had to replace drive belt and brake pads because of first time rider issues. (Towing in high gear, constant passengers, etc..) Now there is a pretty high pitch whining coming from the front. Only does it high gear when I run it over 30km/hr and gets louder the faster I go. Only makes the sound while actually driving. No matter how high she revs in neutral there is no whining. Any ideas?

Have you changed front diff fluid?

Maybe front wheel bearings as well...

I think treacherous is on the right track with wheel bearings, lift the front up and shake the front wheels to see how they are. It is the easiest/quickest thing to check to begin with.

Well I've pinpointed the noise to the rear diff. Hopefully an oil change will fix my problem. Never heard of having to replace a differential before an actual year of riding. Wtf.

Vent tube on the diff does not go very high on the X2. If you have been in water a lot, might have water in the diff...
