My sportsman 850 started overheating yesterday, is there a common problem with these? The temp. light comes on and rpm's are limited. I removed the thermostat and it's fully open at 180 degrees, radiator is full.

To properly get all the air bubbles out of the coolant system you must elevate the front end of the machine.

Is that necessary if its never been opened except to check its full?
You said on your orignal post you removed the thermostat. How did you remove the thermostat without opening up the coolant system?

That was before the symptoms appeared.
Exactly. That's why you need to burp it by elevating the front end.
