I have a 2021 base 850 and there's no drive modes.Do the 2021 850’s have the drive modes ? The drive modes are convenient for me .
The 1000 has an additional rear brake but I’m not sure how big of a difference that makes .
There was a difference in price of 1700.00 in this current market . To me that was not a huge jump . But actually it is a lot more when you consider it . I just knew I would be thinking about the 1000 a lot if I didn’t .

Yeah the base model ain't going to have much of anything!!! Best BIGBORE bang for your buck in the BIZ though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have a 2021 base 850 and there's no drive modes.
Call me old school but I like simplicity myself so I’m glad the base models are still options. I don’t need help with my throttle inputs from a computer .I have a 2021 base 850 and there's no drive modes.

Hi,
I'm experienced with dirt bikes (Cr250's/XR650Rs etc) and out door adventuring. I'm not a stranger to big power and high power to weight rations. I'm looking to buy either a 850 or 1000 2021 polaris. The cost of the 1000 has me questioning if the 850 should be enough.... but we always want more. What considerations should I be thinking about? weight difference is minimal, I believe suspension and build is identical- is it only power that I'd be giving up? 11 HP seems minimal.... also are these Vtwins or side by side cylinder designs? Any info would be appreciated.
Go with the 850... my 1000 2017 overheat recall on it and plastic catch fire... my 2020 850 new body style have same frame but do not overheatHi,

Well, I watched the 1000 Sportsman from its introduction for model year 2015. They began shipping about mid-August 2014. Exhaust problems and exploding front pinion covers on the first few years were the primary reasons I held off buying one. Polaris totally changed the exhaust on the 1000 and went to a steel pinion cover for model year 2018... That was the final bug fixes I had been waiting for and led to my decision to buy in 2018. No regrets!View attachment 147400
Never heard of the the newer style 850 or 1000’s overheating. The overheat recall was on 2015’s and earlier models. After that there was a factory installed heat shield and in 2017 a complete body style change for 850/1000’s.
They had a 2021 1000 hunter at my dealer when I got my 850. I just liked the steel blue over the camo.I didn't save any money with the 1k Hunter but it already had all that stuff on it and I didn't have to put it there lol. 😁
Every time you post that picture, it bothers me that the light switch is upside down. Anyone else? lol...
