2023 850 XP Ultimate Trail Edition or 2022 1000 XP S ?

Hi folks. First a little history. I have a bad back and polymyalgia rheumatica, a rare form of arthritis. My doctors tell me I'm very close to needing back surgery that would require a lot of stainless hardware. The arthritis has affected not only my joints but muscles. That being said I'm looking at the Sportsman 1000 XP S because of the ride quality. I'm not going to be racing it but will be trail riding, plowing snow, hunting and checking my trail cameras. I have a JD tractor but wanted something that had a better ride. Do you think the S would be worth the extra $$$ or does the 850 XP Ultimate Trail have a pretty good ride?. Both machines are new. I would appreciate any advice you guys could give me.
Thanks, Tony

I have a 2021 Sportsman 850 Premium and a bad back. I didn't think I would be able to ride much due to the back pain. But the Sportsman suspension works great and I can ride without much pain. I get more back pain from loading the 850 onto a trailer and tying it down than I do riding trails.

So I don't think an 850 or 1000 will make much differance in ride quality. Just get the size you want and can afford.
I’m not sure of the current specs on the S models, but I believe they come with standard shocks, so ride quality will be the same. I’d save the extra money and get a set of Elka shocks for the 850 which will improve the ride quality and they are adjustable so you can tweak to your liking.
