Does the 4wd engage or activate differently between a 1997 Sportsman 500/Xploerer and a 2005-and newer style 4wd?
on my 1997 Xploerer 500 it has a button and when pushed it seems to lock up the front good. sometimes it binds on dry pavement and I have to disengage so i know it is locked and working well.
The 4wd system on the newer bikes 2005 and newer seems to be activated when the rear slip then all 4 engage. Engaged by a switch.
I was wondering if the older system is in fact different or if it is the same?
I have 3 ATVs now and need to sell one and keep two or sell two and buy a 2015 570 EFI EPS low mile unit for sale. I can't decide on which to let go.
I like the 1997 Xplorer 500cc for the u-joint axles (no cvs to go bad), no electronics ecu, simplicity, very low mileage unit in great shape although a little faded from storing outside with no cover for a few years. 2" lift on 27"s no spedo or mph, hour meter. wont go in low range just this spring, maybe the sifter lever need work. Does not have park like newer models, no EBS, mechanical rear center disk break.
2007 Sportsman 500 H.O. carb. with 1200 trail and plowing miles, pretty clean. has a few small fixed cracks in the front box from an impact. Does not have EBS, hydraulic rear breaks.
2005 Sportsman 700 EFI with 327 plowing driveway miles. I like the EFI and more HP but no pull start on this unit. the frame bottom is pretty rusty from owner using a LOT of salt when plowing. Has EBS, hydraulic rear breaks.
Pros or cons of each? which to keep or sell?
