I have a 2013 sportsman 850 that is overheating. It started from the very first ride the hot light will come on and engine goes into limp home mode. i have not acctually let it get to the point where antifreeze comes pouring out but i can tell it is exteamly hot. the fan works but only for a short amount of time. If i stop the bike then restart it the fan will run for about 15 sec then shuts off. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times but they say they cannot get it to everheat "i call bs" this is just the start of problems. I was test riding it yesterday and the bike lost all power. when i say lost all power picture taking the battery out of the atv and trying to start it. IT will do absolutly nothing.:motz: I have checked all the fuses and relays in the front fuse box, and connot find anything wrong. I thought maybe i hit the kill switch but its not that either. I have always loved polaris but this one is starting to put a bad taste in my mouth. THIS THING IS BRAND NEW WITH ALLOT OF PROBLEMS somebody please help i just want to ride.

If it's brand new...... for goodness sake take it back and have it covered under warranty!!

Tell them to keep it and keep trying it, put some miles on if they have to. Since you've already taken it in an assuming tried the "nice approach".... Bring it back and GET PISSED OFF!! Tell them you don't want the #@$&ing thing back until it works right or you want your money back!!!! Demand to speak to the owner.... bypass the manager.

Sounds like a cdi box to me....

Problems

When the atv would not turn over did you have to jump start it? I would check battery voltage with atv running to make sure it is charging battery and not over charging. For the over heating part my guess would be faulty fan relay, seems like the 2013 have a lot of problems with this. Dealer should take care of this situation no questions asked.

the atv is still not running and dealer is closed today. i checked the battery and it is at 12v. i have checked all the connections to the battery and they are good. there is no power to anything on the bike no lights no display no trying to start when i turn the key. it really is like as if you took the battery out of the atv and that is what i have. no electricity to anything at all. the dealer has replaced the fan relay twice and it still has not solved the oveheating problem. any ideas????

problems

Maybe check where ground wire is attached to frame to make sure it is tight? And check to see if wires come unplugged from ignition switch.

Looking at the wiring diagram, the problems that you describe leads me too think the ECM having a bad ground, it sends a wake up call too the body control relay that wakes up most things on your atv, including sending a ground too control the fan circuit. If there is too much resistance with the ECM ground when ever a high load is applied too it some circuits depending on resistance will shut down. As the resistance increases over time mor things stop working until nothing works at all. There is a big ground connection under the left fender here the gas goes in. Take off the front plastic and look at all the connections, put dielectric grease on everything and check the plug going into the ECM located under the dash pod behind the battery against the intake air box.

Dear friend.

I had the same problem, change this part: Breaker, Circuit, 10 AMP, Sealed part number 2410692, a lot of polaris have the same problem, this breaker send the correct time to the fan when the motor is hot, the normal time that the fan works is aprox 40 - 45 secs.

Good luck...

I personally would push it into the truck and bring it to the dealer..... if it ain't running they'll have to look at it a lot closer, than you just bringing in a "machine with symptom's" for the 3rd or 4th time!! At that rate, they will begin to shrug you & the machine off like chicken little otherwise!!!

^^^ I agree! Then I'd call Polaris headquarters and file a complaint for the poor customer service you've received. .. good luck.

I just got a call from the dealer. they said that the fan is possibly bad. The reason they think its bad is because it is "drawing 15 amps on a 10 amp circuit" thus causing the circuit breaker to fail. I do not know if this is true but i sure hope it fixes my problem.:ponder:
