First time 2 stroke owner. Haven't had a quad in 12 years. Purchased this two days ago on a whim after seeing it for sale on the side of the road. It really nice shape. Sorted some carb issues with a good cleaning.

  1. Do you have to mix anything with gas? (Didn't think you did, but saw another forum post where someone mentioned 32:1 so was confused)
  2. The Oil tank has been at the same level (topped right off) for about 20-30 minutes of run time so far. Didn't know how quickly it would be used.
  3. Engine seems to be making a loud metal on metal noise, though it seems as though it's running fine, and has good power (I'm 345 lbs and it rips up dirt big time with me on it). Is this normal?
  4. Starter just clicks with what seems like a good (neighbor gave to me) battery. Should I run jumpers from my car to make sure and would this be starter or a solenoid that needs replacing?

This is my first list of need to knows. But if someone wanted to share how the heck you get at the spark plug, I'd like to stop scratching my head over that one.

1) No, you don't premix or add any oil to the gas.
2) You will not notice the oil level going down after such short running times. A full oil tank will last you a looong time before having to add any again.
3) describe the sound better and when do you hear it? Is it at idle, during acceleration, at steady throttle settings or all of those?
4) its a 12v so go ahead and hook to your car.

Awesome! Thank you for the concise answers. I've got probably an hours run time on it, and haven't noticed the oil level change noticeably.

On 3, not being accustomed to 2 strokes, I don't know if it's normal. It just sounds like metal on metal friction. I assume the cylinder rings against the sleeve. I notice it the whole time I'm running. If I had to give a description, it sounds like a circular saw cutting. That metalic almost ringing sounds. But quieter. Two neighbors with quads haven't mentioned it and they've been around it running a little. But neither has a 2 stroke. I was thinking of taking a video and posting it to YouTube, but I don't know how well the noise would translate over the friggin loud exhaust. :)

It could be normal if it is faint. It could also be the clutch rubbing slightly on the transmission cover. The spinning of the clutch on the plastic has a sound that almost sounds like metal scratching. I would just ride it and keep mental note of any changes in sound. Those 2 stroke Fuji motors are nearly bomb proof and last a long time.

Sounds good. Ran it down the street and back today. Still haven't sorted the long warm up issue. Have to warm up for a loooong time (5-6 minutes +) before it will drive without just crapping out. Going to soak the carb at some point since even after spraying out there was some varnish on the services. And need to sort out what the adjustment screws actually do.

Thanks again.

Curious what you fly (Gatafly). I do UAV aerial photograph and fly RC planes/helis. Went to school for aircraft maintenance. Love birds of all sorts.

Sounds like you may need to pull the carb, disassemble and soak for a thorough cleaning then a little tuning.

Have not flown in awhile due to life circumstances, but miss it badly. I have my commercial multi instrument rating and flew many single and twin engine planes with most being in King Air's
