i have a 96 sportsman 500 starts runs and ldles but if i go more the half throttle itbogges down and the head pipe turns cherry red .
tryed cleaning carb and to ajust the pilot screw and no go still the same
cherry red ?? that would be a sight to see ,you may want to check your muffler it may be plugged up.try slipping it off and see if it revs and the pipe doesn't change colors, just not for a real long time
boy if its turing the pipe cherry red then that means the exhuast gases are super hot, which would indicate is is running really lean. would also explain why it idles but bogs with throttle. make sure you are jetted right for the temp and elevation you are trying to run in
ok tryed the muffler did not change .
run fine up too last year i have not cange any thing as far as jets .
tryed cleaning the carb and no luck, checked the filters
Just got done reading a post similar to this one. Cherry red exhaust pipe. Turned out to be the coil weak spark. He said he bought a new one off ebay for like 20 bucks.
