Just purchased a 97 Sportman 400 (600 miles) Runs great at idle and going forward, put it into reverse AND it will "spit and fart" like my old gram ma.
I am NEW to POLARIS. :dunno:

By the application of “scientific methodology” I ruled out
Fuel, choke, spark plug fouled, air filer clogged, electronic throttle control etc………………..
Leaves me with a Reverse Speed Limiter Malfunction hypothesis :dunno:

ANYONE GOT A TESTING PROTOCOL before I start having to sell body parts?:anbet:

Also, I have NO lights...............(do these have fuses)

with regards to headlights, the brown wires that spade plug to the elec conecters box just under the handle bars on my 95 magnum wiggled loose with years of stearing and shorted out all my headlights, the repair was to simple clean ends and reconnect

yeah the spitting and farting is a feature, like a rev limiter so you don't kill yourself at 40mph going in reverse. Push the button (above) and hang on.

You see since polaris uses the CV clutch system for all gears, the reverse even though its geared low will still go scary fast. So they limit the revs for safety sake.
