Bad news. While riding, the master link came apart on the chain and it wrapped around the front sprocket about 3 times and put a nice hole in the transmission case. I’ve been trying to look around for a used one. My question is, for that year would it be possible to put in a transmission from a different model Polaris from the same era? I’m assuming some of the machines are similarly designed, if so any input would be appreciated, and also is it specific enough with the 4x4. I see 2 machines on marketplace. Was the 1998 Polaris sport 400 a scrambler? That is a 2x4 thought. The other is an 2001 Polaris Xplorer 400 2 stroke. Any input would help. Thanks.

Last thing on the subject, if a shop were to take on the replacement what would the ballpark labor hours be? I could probably do it but it would be over this coming winter.

Through the roof. Depends on labor rates, but that’s a motor pull and full Tranny disassembly to change the case half. I would do it myself.
