The headlights went dim then bright then blew. I replaced the left handflebar switch and regulator and bulbs and it did it again. Any ideas??? Bike charges fine always starts and thats the only problem I am having with the machine.
Charge battery with separate charger. diconnect charger. let sit for 12 hours. Check the votage from the battery when it is not running. See if fully charged:
12.6 - 12.8
12.4 - 12.6
75% - 100%
12.2 - 12.4
50% - 75%
12.0 - 12.2
25% - 50%
Turn on headlight (no bulb needed. see if voltage at socket equals battery voltage.)
Start engine. Check battery volatage. If charging it should ranged from 13.3 to 14.5. Check voltage at light should be the same.
bad regulator or alternator could put out voltage briefly to blow lights. Check for bad corroded grounds everywhere. If you have a peak reading meter you could see if charge goes over 15v when starting which can blow light. Make certain you used correct bulb and regulator.
