I bought my Sportsman 500 last September and had stored it in upstate New York for the winter. The kids rode it for a few days and it ran out of gas. After that it would turn over but not start. So... I checked the spark plug and it was black so I figured that was it. New plug-still didn't start. I figured maybe the new gas was a bad batch so I emptied the tank and put new gas in-still didn't start. At this point I was ranting around the house about how a brand new quad wouldn't run. I found a video on YouTube that said to remove the air filter and cover the opening with your hand for about 5 seconds while trying to start it. This is supposed to force gas through the fuel line into the carb, and it worked! I've learned a lot from you guys so I hope maybe this will help someone not so mechanically inclined like me.
