I have a 2001 sportsman 500. My friends kid flipped it and the steering column is bent

My question is- is the top of the frame where the steering column mounts right under the POD prone to bending also?

I have not pulled it apart yet, just ordering parts.

Usually the steering post or what the pod and bars mount to, bends first. You can normally straighten that out with a few blows of a hammer, maybe a lil torchin'

the post is hollow. I've ordered a new one along with the whole POD.

I'm just curious if the upper part of the frame where the column mounts is prone to bending or it usually stays put. I'm waiting on the column so until it is delivered I have no idea if it's bent.

It can bend there but not common for a Sportsman unless it hit super hard. Scrambler's on the other hand, will pretty easily bend the upper frame that holds the steering shaft as they are much lighter built in that area. Once you get the new shaft and test fit it you should be able to tell if it is deformed any.
