Hope some one can help. I screwed up - I have a 99 Polaris Sportsman 500 that needed a new mechanical seal. Taking the old one out seemed pretty straight forward. I got the old one out and was pretty satisfied until I noticed I bent the water pump shaft. The first thing that went through my head was F$$$$$$$$. The shaft is less than a 16th off center; I know i will never get it straight again.:pat:

How much is this going to cost to fix through a dealar? or would it be cheaper to just do an engine swap? If so what year engine can I use for a 1999 500? or can I just put the new mechanical seal in and see how long it will last?

that's a hardened shaft, i'm surprised that it would bend that easily, unless you are just talking about just the threaded end. You may want to put the nut on minus the impeller and give it a gentle pry, inspect straightness by cranking or someone rope pulling
