We've had our 2002 Magnum 325 (2x4) for about seven years now, and it has done a great job. Yesterday, one of the oil hoses popped off of the radiator and went unnoticed until ALL of the oil had left the engine. The engine started making grinding noises, and proceeded to cut-off.

We put two quarts of oil back into the engine, and tried to start it back up. It starts, and idles just fine. When the throttle is pushed, the engine makes a loud knocking sounds as the RPM increases. We aren't sure where the knocking is coming from, but we suspect the cylinder was damaged when the oil spilled out.

Any idea what we should do? Is this type of thing fixable? Or should we just start saving our money for a new ATV?

yep, with no oil you have damaged a bearing. you can rebuild it but if you dont do it yourself its going to cost alot. its prob better if you put it on craigs list or ebay and part it out. but do a little reserch and find out what it would cost if you pulled the motor and had someone do it for you. it wont be that hard to pull out and its not that hard to rebuild it if its not anything more then a rod bearing. Good luck and i hope your back on the trail soon.
