I’ve got 11 miles in my 850. I’ve been following the break in protocol to a few. It’s only been run a few times up and down the street so far.
Today I took it out on the trails. Smoothe as butter, running great but the temp gauge started to sky rocket. 220, lights came on so I shut it down. Saw antifreeZe leaking from below, so I pulled the top storage box off and anti freeZe was pissing from the overfill lid.
It’s going back to the dealer in the morning but it’s a pain. First thing service said to me on the phone “ have you been mudding”. That pissed me off. The machine is made for the mud, but no I wasn’t , I was on some typical New England trails in the back yard. Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Hopefully they take care of you quick. Around here, it's weeks to get something looked at. It would be frustrating to deal with this on a new machine.

Their question is valid. Some guys get their radiator caked with mud and the machine overheats. A simple wash would eliminate a dealer visit in some cases.

Our last trip down to HMT, one if the guys was complaining his commander was running hot and flashing lights in tge dash. He said he cleaned the radiator, machine looked clean. We looked and it was all caked with mud under the plastic. Cleaned it up and all issues gone.

I dont mud but the trails I ride do get muddy and my radiator has never got caked with mud. My 850 actually runs really cool. Hopefully its an easy fix and quick turn around.

I think the fan is not coming at all while moving. At idle the fan kicks on at 195 and quickly cools it down. While driving I see the temp get up over 200-225 and I don’t hear the fan at all. Thanks for all the responses. It’s got a grand Total of 5 hours haha. I had a busted leg when I got it, so it’s been a yard ornament. Now I’m ready to go.
What’s the normal temp on these machine while riding. It’s in the 50s here, no mud, just typical trails in low. 10-15 mph

Maybe the thermostat stuck shut or partially open. Have seen them stuck shut and open on vehicles. Have seen brand new thermostats fail. Can you hear the fan going when you shut it off after it overheats? Could be a bad fan, relay, sensor, etc. Had to replace the fan on my XP550.

Dealer fixed it in 20 minutes. He said they have seen a few of the same problems on the 2021 850s. A bad batch of circuit breakers located in the fuse box. Swapped it out. Also, said if it ever happened on trail that I could use a 20-30 watt fuse: great day. Finally got to rip some trails up this afternoon. After owning a bunch of used machines some great and some not so great it’s nice to get a new one. Thanks for all the tips and pointers along the way.

220 Degrees is Crazy! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Polaris, Heck I ride on Myself, But sometimes on newer models, or even older ones, things can go a little downhill with them. The sportsman is a great machine, for example of the "incident" the Sportsman I ride sometimes {Disclamer -It Is Not Mine- Disclamer} had a recall for something about the exhaust being too close to plastics or something along those lines. It was pretty easy to fix. The coolant thing looks like it would be pretty easy to fix with a quick skim of the paragraph and fast looks at the pics, but there could be things i missed. Either way, You have My Support! :)(y)

EDIT: Just saw your newest comment, Great to Hear it was fixed!

Glad they got it fixed and that you watch the gauges and didnt burn the motor up
When I ordered my new 850 I had a broken leg . So I had nothing better to do then read the manual 200 times when I received it. They mention not letting the engine get too hot during the break in period. The way the dashboard lights up the temperature is front and center on it.

They don't read a Stop sign..... you expect them to read a manual?
