ok i will explain, i have a buddy that has a 05 800 sportsman, he was using 1oz of oil every 10 mile he rode, so he asked around for reasons and got a bunch of different ones, so he decided to tear it apart, well he took the parts to a motor specialist. the guy measured everything and told him there was no wear in any parts recrossed hatched, cleaned everything up. there was alot of oil on top of pistons and caked in head. he said he thinks that my buddy never gave the motor time to break in (first oil change 200 miles) or he is changing oil to often, i know there is alot of ifs ands and butts, so im just looking for other opinions. he also told him to NOT use syn oil for break in.
he changed the oil like every 200 miles, which isnt alot of time to be changing oil, and was also using a different oil everytime (all was syn).
I have always been told to break a new engine in by opening it up in short bursts like the article says and have never had a problem.Dont ride too far like that and remember to warm it up first. It doesn't hurt to change the oil every 200 miles,if thats what you want to do but I wouldn't use a different oil every time.Amsoil 0w40 or Moblie1 synthetic will be fine during break in and any other time.First change at 20hrs then every 50hrs after that.
as they was continuing tear down of motor they pulled the valves out and found that the exhaust vavles didnt have seals on them, they called dealer and dealer said that all valves had seals on them, so from the factory the seals was never on exhaust valves. weird but it makes sense.
Half throttle or less for the first tank. Change oil at 50 Hrs or 6 months. Polaris uses the same oil for new and old machines. Mobil 1 (0W 40W) and a NAPA/Wix 1358/51358) filter are options to the over priced Polaris parts.
