For a while now, it's been hard to shift out of low range. Today the shifter flat out broke. Not the lever, but internally. Stuck in low range and no 4x4 cuz it's not activating the switch in the shifter body. Is there any hope of repairing the shifter before I go and order a new one? 98 Xplorer 400
After taking everything apart, it seems the shifter is ok. I'm not sure how it managed to move so much without the linkage moving and something in the shifter not breaking, but the shifter is working. The main problem is the transmission shifts into low range easily, but does not shift out. I had to tap the shift rod with a hammer to get it out of low range. For now I took off the low range linkage and forward, neutral, reverse are working fine.
