Broken shock strut

When I took my box off to wire in a new Lightbar I noticed the strut mount was cracked pretty bad. I’m not sure what the easiest way of taking off the shock is or what I should do with it. I’m currently taking fabrication in high school and have multiple welders at home and pretty decent at it but I don’t know if I wanna do it on the strut mount and mess it up. I know for sure I’m not riding until I fix this it’s very dangerous.

I just looked at my local farm supply store they have everything I need basically. I think I’m going to buy a sheet of metal around the same size and fabricate it myself, Honestly I’ve only been welding for around a semester and a half they recently just shut down our school but I could’ve done a better job myself. I have almost all the tools needed to do it. I seen a thread and they had the same issue and they fabricated it themselves and used a hitch ball to make the part where the shock goes into. I just don’t have the money to bring it to a fab shop or get it made by someone else i do have family that have some experience and my dad is a carpenter so I think I could honestly do this, Plus it would be good experience and something to be proud about. How to: Replace broken strut mounts (This is what im going to be going off of for now, I need to find someone with a good amount of fab experience to help me a bit.)

What about finding one with a broken frame from an atv wrecking yard and getting that entire piece cut off and swapped with a good one?

So I’ve got my dad helping me we are going to jack up the truck and press a Trailer Hitch into the metal with the truck since we don’t have a press. Then we are going to cut the messed up part but try and keep the sides. And weld the new piece in I’ll post some pictures as we go.

Thinkin your dads truck wont weigh enough to form metal of any needed thickness unless it's something a lot bigger than a pickup truck..
I found someone that’s a couple hours away selling a 2006 Polaris sportsman 800 frame for $80 I’m guessing it was written off he has a bunch of stuff listed for parting out.

I just picked up a new frame for $80 it’s in mint condition. The guy even left all the wiring and everything on it. The guy had a bunch of dirtbikes and quads he was parting out it looked like a chop shop. I’m going to feel pretty sad cutting it up but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm glad you were able to find a solution to your problem. I hope you looked or look over your current frame well to see if there are any other issues you didn't initially notice before you cut up the new one. You may need to switch everything from your current 4-wheeler to the new frame in its entirety.

Wouldn’t be able to switch it anyways it’s written off and it’s not registrable at least I don’t think. I’m pretty sure you have to pay more to register it but I could cut off the serial number on my old frame and put it on new frame. I’m almost certain it was sunk when taking all the wiring off a bunch of sand was falling out of the wiring tubes.
Altering or rewelding over a previous VIN Number may get you some time in the Crowbar Hotel till it gets sorted out.

How did this work out for you? My son's wheeler has the same problem again after previously poor weld repair.

Check your state's laws - in IL ATV's and dirt bikes do not require a title and therefore VIN's are only useful information for repairs and stolen vehicle recovery. If AR laws are similar, record the VIN, weld over it and stamp the VIN in a new location
