Plan on riding carbureted Pol. Sporstman 500 in Rockies this summer (up to 9000 ft.) for 3 to 4 days. Do I need to modify/adjust carburetor, change jets, etc. or just go for it?

What elevation do you ride at now?

I would assume you will need to rejet for a drastic change, my experience in dropping from normal elevation 3700 to 600...required no re-jetting on my 500HO or 700 in the past.

For only a few days, I don't think I would bother.

I would carry extra spark plugs because your engine will run too rich and that could foul plugs.

If you want it to run optimally, you need to install smaller carb jets. To get the right size, you need a chart or expert.

You need to replace your previous jets when you get back, else it will run too lean. That is worse than too rich because it can cause high cylinder temperature and pre-ignition.
