Hello! I have zero experience with ATVs aside from some basic knowledge. Last ride, we had to pull out a stuck wheeler, and while doing so, my 2004 polaris Sportsman 700 got damaged. We believed it to be the belt, because it would buck forward or backwards after putting it in gear. We replaced the belt, fixed that problem! After installing the new belt, while in gear, it would move on its own, and seemed to be running at a slightly high rpm. So we made the mistake of trying to adjust the idle. Well now it either won't start or will run at a ridiculously high rpm. There's no in between! Is there something I may have done while trying to adjust the idle? The only thing we touched was the idle screw. Thank you!

Thanks! So I've been out there tinkering with it, (who says a girl can't work on machines??) And I think I may have figured it out. The throttle cable needed adjusting. It'll start now, no creeping, but still shifts hard while running. Shifts smooth when it's off.
