I have a 2013 Polaris sportsman 500 HO. I just put a new Polaris belt on and it's running weird
I know absolutely nothing about Atv's so i'm going to try my best to explain what it's doing.
It starts and idles fines it goes into gear great. It will take off like normal but then it's like something gets stuck and it doesn't shift. The rpms go way up and to go faster than 10 mph i have to completely let off the gas and then it will "shift" and ride normal. If i stop or slow down under 10 mph ..it will do the same thing...rpm's go way up and it feels like it's in low. It will not change until i let off the gas.
Anyone have a clue where i should start?

You are aware you have to “break in “ the belt? Low gear under 15ish mph for at least 10-15+ miles…

Did u make note of the shims if applicable for the secondary (drive) clutch?…sounds like it may be too wide perhaps and not allowing the primary to fully compress or secondary to open fully, or it could be riding the sides of the belt on clutches…let is know how you make out, always get a good + belt…no 25$ cheapie, u get what u pay for and @ 50+ mph I don’t want 25$ holding everything together lol, stay safe and run those belts in also baby em for a bit they will reward you back

My secondary sticks…just found out today…doesn’t open all the way…almost like there’s a groove or something mechanical hindrance, time for new 1? Or is it serviceable at that point?

LOL... You need a press or holding fixture to take it apart.
Better spend some time watching a few videos.
Partzilla, Rocky mountain, EPI, and many others have tutorials. Just make sure you're looking at the same style secondary. They are VERY different for different styles. Yours probably has the plastic buttons worn out or gone inside. They can be difficult to change without breaking a screw. You may need just get a good replacement and then try to repair the old one for a spare.

Lol….i am new to the polaris way…that being said, I also know that i am looking up at these things because my knowledge of them in whole is limited to what im seeing as i take them apart ans disassemble everything and reassemble…I know that the secondarys are different, in fact I don’t think I have yet to see my particular style secondary in any of the tutorials most of them have holes in the back and some kind of bolt going through the backside looks like a tensioner or an adjuster….😂..tutorial and videos it is then

I have no issues with removing two bolts however LOL clutches are very easy to takeoff and put on and that’s where the easy stops for me anyway until I get deeper into it..
If I can take a $60,000 TwinTurbo X6M (X -Drive ) out of limp mode I’m pretty sure I can figure this out
