I lose signal most of the time where I ride so many m not sure that would work for me. I can’t use Polaris Ride Command on my phone because of that same issue.
GAIA does not require a cell signal to function. The program is downloaded to your phone and interacts with the built in GPS on your device.
This also applies to backcounty navigator and Orux Maps.

I don't use GAIA but I do use Orux and BCN. I have the programs loaded on old cell phones that have no service plan at all. They work great. I typically only use them down at HMT so we can hit the outlaw trails and find different things. If you just stick to the actual HMT trails, paper maps are all you need but if you want to venture out, I'd suggest having some kind of GPS device. It's made our trips much more enjoyable.
