I recently bought an 05 Sportsman 700 off of a friend of mine. It never had a winch on it so I picked up a Superwinch LT2500 for 99.00. Today actually warmed up nicely here, so I took the nose off and mounted the winch. My question is...where is the preferred location for mounting the contactor? I see a little shelf on the right side where I found my pre-wired leads that come from my battery. Is this a good spot? I read where some people mount the contactor in the rear storage compartment? That seems like kind of a pain.

Mine is on the left side of the battery just under the left rear fender on a little shelf. '03 SP 700

jeepster....is that where it was factory located or did you put it there?

I had a 2004 1/2 SP 700 and it was in the same place I'm guessing it's the most convenient place for it ...close to the battery, not sure if the factory has a place for it?? I think it's a dealer thing/placement? not too sure??

Yep, it mounts right on the splash guard where the winch prewire harness is. It's #10 in the diagram.
