Creaky front shock

I have an 09 sportsman HO LE.

Last week I had all the plastics off the front end. Now they are back on and after today's ride my front "drivers" side shock is making a creaking noise when I push down on it. Could this be the result of putting the plastics back on? It seems to be creaking towards the top where it connects to the frame. The box screw is right next to it.

Get a good light and look it over good. Looking for any cracks. Then pull off the bolt and inspect. Lastly apply a little lube and re install and tighten. See what you get...

Good luck,

Where would the cracks most likely be?

The upper part of the shock has hard plastic and rubber mounts on it. They might just need lubed or 1 might be broken. Look up the parts diagram for your atv on a Polaris parts website and you will get a better idea of what we are talking about. The hard cone shaped plastic is bad about cracking.
I have the same noise from the same shock on my 700. I wouldn't be too concerned except for it is annoying as all get out.

Next time I have the wheeler torn down that far, I was going to apply some silicon grease to the ball and socket joint where the top of the shock meets the frame. Silicon is plastic compatible.

Another posibility is the rubber seal on the shock could be squeaking on the exposed part of the shock piston rod like a tennis shoe on the gym floor. Don't know what could be done about that.
