I have a 03 predator and recently the decompressor broke into three pieces. I called around to see if i could get one, no luck. So i welded it. I was wondering if you really need this to start the engine? if it already cranks or am i overlooking some thing. The piece holds together good, and it fits like a new one.

The reason i ask is because i have a hotcam stage one and it didnt come with a decompressor i have it installed have everything hooked up, and when you first crank it will fire and run then die, and continue cranking. Both cams are at 9 and 12 it has fuel going to the carb. Would the decompressor cause this? Or is there something i might be overlooking? This decompression set up has me for a loop i dont really under stand how it work, by centrfical force or oil pressure?
Thanks
