Denver Area Job Help

So I got to ask....

.....anybody have any leads that could/would help me land a job. I just relocated to the Denver area, (Littleton to be exact). I know no one here, and that is proving to be difficult to get anyone to call me back.

I am putting resumes in everywhere. My ultimate goal is of course to land a career job in the industrial engineering/design field, but I have to pay the bills along the way too!

Bukaty has already helped me with a referral for an incrediable job opportunity, but it may take some time before I hear anything, if I even do.

I have put some resumes in for the parts counter at a few powersports dealerships, and can't even get them to hire....maybe I am not experienced enough?

So if anyone may be able to help a 24 year old just out of college with a bachlor degree that still has wet ink on it, please feel free to respond or PM me. I am honestly open to any opportunities.

(I won't say I am desperate yet, but I am definitely looking to network with people right now.)

Thanks! It's probably one of the most frustrating things to go through. Can't wait to find s job and company I can settle down with.

I did my part and sent a request in for you with a great company. I hope it works out. I sent you a PM. Thanks
Check out Lockheed Martians website. I think they had some openings in your area.

Thanks Action, lockheed is one of the companies I really want to get in with. A member here on the forums who works for lockheed in another state submitted my resume and cover letter for me with his referral. So, I am in lockheed's system for a couple different entry level positions down here in this area. Fingers crossed.

Thank you. I actually stumbled upon that site the other night. Been slowly going through it.

Got it. Thank you!

I seriously can't wait to get a job. I sleep on an air mattress, my dining room area is a $7 plastic lawn chair and T.V. dinner tray, which also becomes my computer desk.

I have a 20 year old TV, no cable, so if you want to watch a movie, you have to sit on the floor, or the plastic lawn chair, cause that is all I got. :chairfall:

At least I have a roof over my head though! Needless to say though, I am dying to work!

The lifestyle sounds quite Bohemian Kevin. Its so difficult these days. You used to be able to go into the employment office and inquire. If you showed up there several times they would get tired of looking at you and sign you on. Now its all done electronically and resume's read by a computer. I will continue to pull for you from the inside.

Thanks John! I am getting that a lot. Just trying to get a base job so I can just pay my rent to stay in the area, and work on getting a professional career is tough. I put on my best clothes, look sharp, and they turn you right around to their website. It's like entering in tge lottery. You just hope by luck your name is picked, your resume is you entry ticket.

All the help thus far has been greatly appreciated.
Yeah its tough. The Obama economy is not helping matters either. This administration has done very little to help business. In fact just the opposite. Employers are hesitant to hire new people right now because they are afraid of getting hit with more Federal mandates like the new "Obamacare" bill. A year or so into the thing and business is still not sure what the implications are.

Then today its reported that the Chinese have sold off 97% of their US Treasury holdings. Not a good sign because they were about the only country still buying our debt. Hell even the Saudis quit investing in us. So, to cover the Federal Reserve has been buying our own debt with proceeds from Fannie May for over a year now. What does that mean? It means that the world has lost confidence in the ability of this country to pay its long term obligations. The US sells bonds (debt) so they can continue to spend money we don't generate through annual GDP. Historically bonds were floated (offered for sale) to finance things like the Louisiana Purchase, or to pay for things like WWI and WWII. Now we sell bonds to pay for things like Meidcare and Social Security. We are basically a third world economic power now. What does this mean to you? Ultimately higher inflation - perhaps hyper inflation, lower stock prices, deflating prices (hows those housing prices in your neighborhood?) and possibly a complete economic collapse (depression). High precious metal prices is your indicator of this impending fear. Ladies and gentlemen Obama has got to go and we have to stop spending money we don't have.

Our Gov't is not a monarchy where it's one guy's fault. Ever heard of Congress?? It takes both the president and congress to make laws.

This thread is reserved for Kevin. Sorry that my political viewpoint offended you
Whoa Dude, Bukaty, put that back in. You pointed out the sources for the current problems very well. That was very well stated.
I know I'm a new guy here, but I'm also the Operations Manager for the largest lighting company in the US at our Denver office. Just so happens we have an opening on our New Product Development team and we're seeing significant growth (yes, even in this economy). Kevin, send me a PM or e-mail with your resume and I'll see what I can set up with our HR team. I'm assuming you have some good experience with SolidWorks? We use a Six Sigma based Development Process - any experience with DOE, QFD's, FMEA, Pugh Matrix's etc?
Blueline, how's the job hunt coming along? Hope things are working out for you. This really is a great area to live in and the riding is practically unlimited. When you get yourself an atv there are plenty of people to show you around. Group I'm with does an annual new years day ride up near Allenspark. Might not seem like the smartest thing to do, but it sure is a good time.
Hey! Thanks for asking. I will give an update.

I am in absolute survival mode. Things in Denver were not going real great for me and my girlfriend of 8 years. I did get a job at a retail store, which is a great company who treats their employees well, but my sporadic schedule with varying hours per week just wasn't earning me enough money to even cover my most basic bills such as rent, utilities, food, and gas. So I made a phone call out of desperation back to some friends from the university I just graduated from, looking for employment opportunities, and it came.

I just moved back to the state of Michigan, which is further from home for me, but I am familiar with the area, and have friends here. I was hired on a 12 month service opportunity, working with my previous university. I am employed by AmeriCorps as a Service Member. I goal during these next 12 months is to develop relationships, networks, and provide advice and opportunities to the juniors and seniors of the 9 local high schools to encourage them to go to post secondary school after they graduate, and help them find the right school, and the money to do so. I am paid a stipend to live one, but I am also furnished free housing (rent and utilities paid for), a free 7 day a week meal plan at the university, and health insurance. So really, this is much more safe for my girlfriend and I, from a financial aspect. This also allows here to return to school full time to finally fulfill her degree in PTA.

We were sad to leave Colorado, but it was for the best. We hope to be able to return, hopefully with entry level career jobs each. I know these 12 months will go by fast, so I will start networking immediately, hoping that I can move into a career position at the completion of my service term here. And hopefully, that place will be Colorado, but I am not limiting myself to just Colorado either.

I am excited to see where I will find my place in this world. I have a lot of work ahead of me though.
