It looks like I need to remove my winch on my 2014 sportsman 400 to change the front diff fluid. Is that the case? Also I changed my oil and trans fluid and the trans fluid I put in looked a lot thicker then what I drained. I went by the part number in the manual for the fluid, off page 129. I will say the magnet on the trans was nasty, this is it's first maintenance, is that normal. Sorry for so many questions I just want to do it right.:veryhappy:

Thanks,

It's actually not hard to remove the winch not ideal but could be worse, remove the lower plastic and then 4 bolts for the winch mount and move it ahead enough to access the fill-check plug

Ya gears and chains do leave a bit of shaving behind especially the first oil change...

I'd have to agree here.... For how often it needs to be done, it isn't that bad of job to do. Also allows you a good "look around" (inspection) while you have the the cover off. I personally like to change all fluids once a year.... whether they need it hour wise or not!

Spot on again.... As the gears and chain break in or "seat together" they wear slightly. I'd be willing to bet on your next service you only see a fraction of what you saw on the break-in fluid change.

Differential Oil Change

Well I read this post and I had to investigate. My 2013 400 Sportsman is due to have the differential oil changed soon.On my machine, you have to remove the four torx screws to remove the plastic guard. Then remove the 4 bolts and move the winch out of the way.I had the opportunity to use my new 3/8 drive impact wrench.Anyway, it is an easy process, nothing to it, Ken

Did my fluids a few months back now... It's not hard to take the winch out, but the whole time I was thinking to myself "really polaris? THIS was the best way you could come up with for maintenance?". Also, my tranny plug had the typical breakin sludge.

I used the vent hose to pour in the new gear oil. This is what my dealer does when they have a machine with a winch on it.
