my stepson got my atv wet and since then it backfires and breaks up when it gets to a 1/4 throttle.:shocked::shocked::shocked:

When you say he got it "wet" do you mean under water or just drove through a puddle? Drain the recoil and magneto housings and drain the clutch cover to start. Then check the air box for mud and water and clean or change the filter. Your problem may be moisture in the relays and connections under the front plastic panel and also check and dry the spark plug boot.

Yeah, most times just getting wet shouldn't cause any problems. You should probably get a tube of dielectric grease at the auto parts store to use on all electrical connections and the plug boot. You might also want to check/clean any grounds and connections that may be rusted or corroded and pay special attention to the main ground to the frame and the ignition coil.
