Electric Sportsman who's ready?

I have been a long time supporter of Electric power in everything. And now Polaris and Zero Motorcycles signed a 10-year agreement last year to produce a range of electric vehicles, including ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles. Both companies hope to seize upon what they think has been an overlooked market for electrification, starting with off-road vehicles and snowmobiles. Ultimately, they hope to make an electric version of every type of vehicle in Polaris’ lineup by 2025.

What a joke. Polaris can't or won't produce a standard internal combustion engine machine with wiring and an electrical system that will work for long without repeated and chronic failures.
They can't even make a simple 12 vdc charging system that won't fail and most of that technology is over 100 years old.
So, why on earth would anyone buy a totally electric machine from them?
But, I guess they subscribe to the same philosophy as P.T. Barnum who is often quoted as saying: "There's a sucker born every minute." lol

I think that Polaris would be handing the rains over to Zero when it comes to the electronics, so they might actually push out an amazing product.

I guess it may be ok for farm work or around the house where you can keep it plugged in all the time. But I can carry a Rotopax and take 5 minutes to refill a fuel tank. Or drop out of the woods and hit a gas station. Having to haul a generator everywhere you go and then burn gasoline anyway while sitting around a couple hours out in the woods to recharge your batteries just doesn't sound very amazing to me.
Sorry G, I'm just not even interested in such a thing.
Replacing batteries every few years at probably a couple thousand dollars a pop don't interest me much either.

It comes standard with a 8,500 foot extension cord for extended run time.

It is very seldem that we travel less than 40 miles in a day and not unusual to travel 100 miles. Sure those people who own electric vehicals do not pollute the invirermant where they drive. But on the way back from AZ we keep looking at the electric generator plants (coal burners) that are putting out tons of polution to supple fuel for these autos that do not pollute.

I have been told that before at the RC flying field that it was all about the sound of the engine then I show them what my electric airplane would do with 2 1/2 time thrust to weight makes it Insane and louder than some fuel airplanes .You can't imagine the power of a electric ATV and yes you will hear and feel it.

So your prediction is they will short out?

But they should not need snorkles!

I think the overall plan is to have a small easily swappable battery pack. On long rides you can carry a couple extra. I read a couple of the big moto names are trying standardize the packs, which would make them more flexible and cost effective.

Hopefully I’ll live long enough to go electric when the range is a solid 100+ miles and the suspension is computer assisted and buttery smooth over choppy trails. No engine noise is a plus. Bring on the future! (Luke Skywalker hover-car?)

Accept it not, electric is the future. Apart from range they are superior in every way.

The chargers are set up as a normal 120V outlet similar draw as a block heater. So they won't "overload the grid." That is just big fuel propaganda.

I think they will have there place for daily commuters. But they won't replace fuel powered vehicles any time soon. Those coal fired generating stations will be gone long before gasoline vehicles are.

And how many years have we been hearing this? People this isn’t something new. Manufactures have spent countless years trying to figure it out . You guys act like you want all electric garbage . And no I will not accept it. Iv put food on my table and made my living my entire life off of gas burning machines . Yes it will come a day when we see a lot of them. But no they will never replace gas cars. Not in our or our kids lifetime anyways How about this. You guys that want this. Do your thing. And rest of us will do ours. But don’t push your electric garbage off onto the multiple millions of people as myself that not only enjoy our machines but also make a living by them.

And the only thing electric is “superior “ in is top speed and acceleration. And that’s only to an extent ! . But here’s one thing these electric toys will never do is look this cool and sound this good. Now Iv got to unfollow this thread to save my sanity .I hear enough from our government trying to make us drink the all electric vehicle coolaid. I don’t want to argu amongst fellow atv forum members about Politics because to me that’s all this electric stuff is. And is the reason our gas prices have sky rocketed over the last month . I’ll leave you some pics of a real car with some real bald eagles under the hood!

I don’t think there is any denying the sound, feel, smell of an internal combustion engine. It’s historic and muscle cars are the bomb. However there is also no denying that it is old technology that uses limited resources. It’s days are numbered and either electric or some other unknown technology will eventually take over. Maybe not in our lifetimes, maybe not our kids, but it is bound to happen. With the speed of technology I think it’s closer than we think.

Well said, I'm going start by saying that I Love all gas guzzling Sportsman XP 1000 ,02 Trans Am, Escalade ESV, 4x4 Dodge Ram and other work equipment that I used but I use only electric weed eater since 2012 still using the same 58v Echo and I Love it 100% dependable, no starting no maintenance,no air filter ,no oil, no gas ,no smoke in my face and Sportsman can be even better no belt, no one way ,no clutch and no maintenance as far as the engine. Yes the main down side is that Muster Truck Sounds is a big reason I parked a (new at the time) 2017 Kodiak 700 a got a 2018 Sportsman XP 1000 because a friend of mine got a Sportsman 850 and that exhaust sounds is something that you can feel in your gut, so I exactly what some of you are talking about.
