Always carry more water than needed to drink, unless riding near a running creek/river. If you find yourself 20 miles from the truck, the fan stops working & the radiator boils over suddenly w/o warning, nearly any atv with a radiator and heat sensor to trigger the fan, could probably be fixed in an emergency in this manner. either unplug the sensor harness and short the ends of the other lead which triggers the fan to engage, or simply cut the wires to the sensor strip and twist them together, then tuck them in somewhere same. Every long distant trail rider should have some #18-20 wire, stripper and electric tape in your tool box.
First, It must be the sensor going bad for this to work. If the ride is boiling over, kill the engine and leave the key on and listen or look to see if the fan is running. If your Fan is burned out this obviously wont work, but take some wire and supply power to the fan by unplugging the fan. Don't worry about (+) or (-) if you're backwards the fab will run backwards so you'll still know it's not fried. The simply cut the plug off the harness to the sensor leaving enough to strip and twist together. with the key on, you should now hear the fan running. If you didn't bring enough water & no creek nearby, you better hope your bladder's full. P.S. wait till it cools off before adding that precious fluid or it will all go up in steam. Nothing smells worse that steaming urine. :Flush:
