First time polaris owner from Alaska

Hey there everyone! I'm a first time polaris owner. I picked up a 2002 sportsman 700 real cheap. It has a few problems I was hoping to to see if y'all had any suggestions on what to do. The speedometer doesn't work and the 4x4 doesn't work. I figured at the price I got it for I could fix it and still come out on too. So if any one has any suggestions I would love to hear them before I take it in to polaris.

Welcome. Fix the speedometer and your 4 wheel will probably work too.
It runs and is driveable, all four tires pain when on jacks but when on ground the left rear won't spin. But i will replace the speedometer and see how it goes. Thank you
That sounds like a different issue. I assumed it wouldn't work in 4 wheel at all. Both rears should turn on the ground. Maybe a stripped hub or broken cv joint?
Welcome to forums lots to learn from here. What's the temperature in Fairbanks this evening fricken cold in the midwest. - 1° in northern wisconsin
Would it be best for me to pull it apart and check it out myself? I am some what mechanical inclined, never worked on an atv just older trucks. Or should i take it down to the local polaris shop and have them check it out?

We are actually having a heat spell right now. It was -30 Tuesday but a toasty 25 today.
By all means if you think you can take it apart and not make it worse you will save a lot of money over having the dealer look at it.
And thanks for sending the cold down here. Lol. -21 this morning when I got up.

So I talked to the shop and the want over a grand to fix the rear diff. Does that sound about right?
