I was dragging a tire that someone threw out in the swamp when my winch (superwinch LT2000) started making this crunching sound. I tore it apart and found this metal plate that I guess was supose to keep the cable on the spool all crunched up and my cable just destroyed. This is BS! I thook that plate off and all is good now. But I'll have to get a new cable. Oh, and the roller fairlead is just flat junk on these winch's. It's a thin hollow tube that is way larger than the bolt. It has plastic bushings in it that crush.
Anyone know if I can put synthetic rope on this winch? I know I'll have to replace the roller fairlead. But the web page says it needs a different drum or something.

If your drum is not marked up from the wire cable you will be fine. If it is not smooth though it will destroy a synthetic cable. I sanded my drum down when i replaced my cabe just to make sure it was smooth. I also replaced the fairlead with a better one that rolls easier.
