what type of fluid is used in the gear box on a 02 sportsman 700? i came home from work and found a puddle under it and found that the front seal is leaking. i want to go on one more ride before replacing it but dont know what fluid to get. once i fill it ill be able to tell if it is leaking too bad to ride. thanks jamie

are you talking the front diff. or rear tramsmission

for the front use 75-90 gear oil ...I would say use synthetic but since your going to tear into it..use a jug of the wal mart gear oil....

if its the tranny in the rear...some use 5-30 weight oil...I use chain case oil....but since it may go under repairs..use the 5-30 weight oil....I heard use the high mileage type for the added friction modifiers

im talkin about the trans/gearbox leaking from where the front drive shaft comes out. it smells like a gear oil that is in there.
