Just thought I'd put this out there so if anyone was searching for the information that they'd be able to find it.
I replaced the left hand rear inner CV boot on my 07 Hawkeye 300 4x4 last night. and it took a little searching the web to figure out what was going on.
Taking the Halfshaft out of the ATV was simple. Remove the tire, Take out the outer upper control arm bolt, Take off the axle nut. and the outer splines should slide out of the hub. A strong pull on the axle should pull the inner joint out of the rear differential.
Now, unlike the sportman axles, These do not have an accessable spring clip to allow you to take the CV joints appart. And the inner CV joint DOES NOT come appart. In order to change the inner boot, you have to take appart the outer CV joint.
The video shows how to take appart the CV Boot clamps without destroying them.
Now, with the outer boot loose. clean up the extra grease and. move it up the axle shaft and place the axle with the outer CV joint down into a vice. Use a brass punch/brass hammer/rubber mallet and hit the outer CV joint parrallel to he shaft to force the axle out of the joint. This side has the same type of spring clip that the inner joint has that keeps it in the differential.
Remove the outer CV Boot. and than remove the clamps on the inner cv boot and remove the boot. Clean out the old grease as best you can.
than put in new grease, and put the new boot back on. reusing the boot clamps to secure it.
Clean the grease out of the outer CV joint and boot. Re install the boot onto the axle. Add new grease into the outer CV joint. I put it into the center hole that the axle slips into until it pushed any remaining old grease out. Slip the axle into the CV joint (note, you may need to use a rubber mallet/brass hammer to seat the axle into the joint properly) than install the boot back on the joint and secure reusing the clamps.
Hope this is helpful for anyone who has a midsized Hawkeye/sportsman 300/400.
