howdy yall...
just bought today... a 2002 Polaris Scrambler 400 2x4 automatic.
been riding a friends 2004 Honda Rancher 4x4 350. And LOVED IT.
so I came across this polaris on a REALLY good deal. bought it.
I know they are two different animals...
a guy bought it brand new for his wife... has less than 200
miles on it... original tires, heck, still has the bottle of oil when he
bought it, never used it all.

still trying to find online an owners manual.

here's a pic of my scrambler..
pics not great, took it with my cell phone.

Bumbed about fuel tank

Hi all,

I have 2005 Sportsman 700 EFI with only 60 hours on it.
A detached retina two years ago put me out of action.
Now after 5 surgeries I am riding on flat ground and mild hills.

Went to start the 700 and it wouldn't. The Polaris service
rep here said the fuel pump went bad. They want $ 831
because they said Polaris only sells the fuel pump & tank assembly.
They do not sell just a plain fuel pump. Obviously I am ticked that
the fuel pump went out after only 60 hours. Hope Polaris is reading this.

Does any one know where I can get just a fuel pump? I am thinking
some other company supplied the pump to Polars. I am a journeyman level
aircraft mechanic (Airforce) so I feel quite confident in doing the work myself.

Thanks

Didn't someone post about this same thing recently? $831 is definately outta hand, take the pump to an auto parts place and see if they can match it.

wondering

the new quad I got has a "override" button...
I'm assuming it will down shift the transmission.
does anyone know how it fully works?
I've used it by holding it down, but do I have to hold it.
if I tap it more than once, will it down shift more..??
yep, a noob to quads.. oh btw.. it's an automatic.
thanks for any help.

I just got a new one too- is it a yellow button on the left? I was told that when in reverse, it defaults to 'low', and when the button is held down while in reverse, it's in 'high'. So if you want to go fast in reverse, hold the button down. Also, the button toggles the dash readout between the odometer, the tachometer, the time, etc. I got a 500 Sportsman HO.

When backing up your machine it will only allow you to go 5 mph. Then if you go over that speed the timing automatically retards so the machine can not go any faster. Built in safety device so your kids do not back the machine up at 60 mph. If you want full power and your 4 wheel drive to work you will need to hold the over ride button in when in reverse.

my quad is new to me, but not a new one.
it's a 2002 Polaris 400 liquid cooled 2 stroke 2x4 automatic.
as for the override button, when I use it, it seems to down shift the
transmission, giving me more power... or maybe it just seems so.

oh... here's the vid of my younger two seeing it for the very first time
last sunday...

yep, you nailed it... it's only use is in reverse. like if you're trying
to back out of a mud hole and need more power.
works great btw. :)
