Hi,

New to the site and it looks like I'm in the right place to maybe get some help or advice.

I have a 2000 400 Explorer. Installed a new battery and took several fishing and hunting trips without any issues. Then one day I went ice fishing and on the drive in at night, my lights got dimmer and dimmer until the battery was drained.

After I install a new battery (old one will not charge) are there any checks I can do to check the charging system using a multi meter? Or any suggestions on the most probable cause or part?

Any help would be much appreciated!

with the new battery in and the machine running put a multimeter on the battery terminals and read voltage. at idle should be 14V or so and if you rev it it should/could jump to 15V or there about

Well with new battery installed I have 12.70V with engine running 12.60 and advancing power makes no diff. Any thoughts on where to go next?
