I just bought a 2003 sportsman 600. While driving it up my drive way it came to a stop and made grinding noise from the rear. The drive shaft was turning but the 4wheeler wouldnt move, i was able to get it in to my garage by using the 4wd. Im new to this and i just bought it. it seemed like it was in good shape.

When is the last time the rear diff fluid was changed?

not sure i just got home from buying it and was driving it up my drive way. i will start there i guess. im just so mad right now. i assume there is a drain and fill plug like on a car?

i can turn the drive shaft assembly but the actual shaft that goes into the rear end does not turn, the yoke is turning on the shaft coming out the rear end.

Ouch! You might get by with just replacing the yoke if the shaft splines aren't too far gone. Do you know the guy you bought from well enough to take it back or get an adjustment for repairs?
