How Much Is Too Much?

I have a Sportsman 400 and have done the three headlight mod with a relay. I want to add two 55 watt lights to my brush guard. Will this be too much to add to my electrical system? What would be the best way for me to go about wiring this to my existing light switch to come on with my high beams? Should i add another 12v battery in my storage box or will my stator be able to handle the extra load. Any experienced guys out there that can help me out? Thanks!

I feel the charging systems (I can only speak for the value line) are very week. Perhaps if you buy a better deep cycle battery it would be ok. I also have the three way headlight mod and I don't use it often because the battery drains so quickly. I also do more slow rock crawling and bush wacking through the woods type riding so my RPM's aren't up there.

I'm kinda thinking that I should just hook up a couple of 12v gel cell batteries in series and put them in my storage box and run a toggle switch. I just don't know how long those batteries would last before having to recharge them. Thanks for the advice. Anyone else with some experiences that may help me?

You will want the batteries connected in PARALLEL, not series.

I have the three headlight mod, I've never had a battery problem. I always keep a tender on it when I put my machine away though. I know that my battery is in good shape because the tender goes to green pretty quickly once plugged in, even though my battery is two years old. There are a thousand people on here who have the brush guard lights, I'd just do it if I were you. If you're really worried about it sucking too much juice, maybe consider an LED bar instead of the 55W lights.

FYI, a buddy of mine has the Warn aux lights on his bumper too, and we agree that they put out a useless amount of light. When the three main headlights are all on, you can't tell the difference whether or not the Warns are on or off. Maybe its just those particular lights that aren't great.. I'd probably check out the light output before you invest.

You will want the batteries connected in PARALLEL, not series.

CORRECT! Pos (+) to Pos (+) and Neg (-) to Neg (-). Otherwise you will be putting 24, 36, 48VDC to your lights if hooked up in SERIES.

Right, I knew how to hook the batteries. Just used the wrong terminology. So does anyone else think its pointless and a waste of money? Cause I'm sure there are a few other things I could pick up for my popo instead if that's the case. I was looking at the 5" KC HiLites. I like the LED bars a lot but they want so much for them!

I have the three headlight mod plus fog lights on my 800 and it work just fine. If I ran two sets of 55w fog lamps on an old Honda Rancher ES for three years and never had battery problem you should be fine.
