We have sportsman 500s and 800s, the highest mileage one being just under 1200 miles. I was under the impression these last until about 5000, until I saw this:

2008 POLARIS SPORTSMAN 500 H.O.

How many miles do you guys have? We maintain our machines really well, just curious what an average lifespan is

I'd say it truely depends on the kind of "use" and "abuse" they see..... and what type of "maintenance schedule" the prior is followed up with!! :D

For me, the 2005 Sportsman 400 has right around 1900 clicks (miles) on the odometer..... and the 2012 Sportsman 800 has under 350 clicks (And in the words of Thorshammer.... "Not Enough"). :fing02:

I talked to one of the guys at Montana Jacks (I think it was Steve) and he said they had one like mine ('02) with over 10 grand on it. Take care of them and they will last a long time.

I have 85.0 on my 08 sportsman 300. Still runs like new, it should last another 100 years or so at this rate.

I find that western riders have a lot more miles on the average machine than north eastern machines. The winters, and abundance of mud and extremely rough trails really shorten the life of our machines compared to those out west.

Got 120 something on my 14 800 I've owned it for three weeks now did snorkels so far more coming hard to stay out riding all day with this cold ass weather but I return to work soon with 70 to 80 hour work weeks so I'll be getting as many miles in Saturday nights and Sundays

Coming from Montana here I find it funny you say your winters cut you short on riding. I snowmobile a lot during winter and my friends always ask how can you stand it out there in this cold? I always just smile and say I have more winter cloths then I do brains lol and theres no bugs! Oh and I have a 2013 850xp with 600 miles on it and a 2008 outlander xt 800 with 3600 trouble free mile

2600 miles on my '05 800. Keep it maintained and she runs great! The OEM tires ( PXT's) were trashed so I Put a new set of rubber on it and looks and feels much better as well as some other mods.

My crew averages around 2000 miles per year in some really rough terrain. I'm riding a 06 800. You can do the math. I have no plans to trade anytime soon unless a deal comes along that I can't pass up.
One of my riding buddies has a 12 with 4000+ and the other has an 11 with 6000+. Heck, my Dad rides a 96 that I maintain that's just as dependable today as it was when he bought it new 18 years ago.
It's all about service and maintenance. Do it and they'll last as long a you want or don't do it and trade every couple years...It's up to you.
