I was working on a trail boss 250 and bayou "non electrical" when one of our old neighbors asked as well if I can help him.
The issue of his 350L 4x4 was not charging no lights, choke lever was messed up but the engine starts with pull string, so we ordered some parts to try and when those arrived we installed. After installing it the battery is already charging but there is still no lights indicators electric starter still won't work. Fan won't spin.
Well we got another battery few weeks old and from the trail boss 250 that we could try. I went inside the house to get something and the old guys installed the other battery and been trying to start it. And when I did came back and learned that it won't start. I checked the choke etc and I realized the he installed the battery backwards not checking the + and - on each battery are on the opposite sides.
Now since I'm not good at wirings I don't know where to start i don't know how to test things. I just got a test light and a multi meter more than a year ago thinking that I might use it in the future. I think it's already time to use it but I don't know I'm when to use ohms resistance continuity etc and what wires to test with, but Im sure with proper guidance I can learn.
Right now I'm thinking of ordering CDI/ new regulator and since I'm not good at wirings a second hand/used wiring harness from eBay.

You need to change your approach to solving a problem by testing to find out which parts are problems before installing untested parts that may unwittingly introduce new problems.

Step by step:
Installing the battery backwards is only a problem for the charging system and starter motor - the lights, fuses and electric motors don't care which way the current is flowing.

Not charging and no lights are two separate problems - work on getting the light working first. The CDI is not connected to the battery so it was not affected by battery polarity. When all else is repaired and the engine is running, then work on the charging system.

Btw can I change the circuit breakers into the fuses? It's so hard find find 10 amp circuit breakers, went to Napa and AutoZone yesterday and the only have 20 amps and up. Just to go there I need to travel atleast 1 hour and 30 mins since I live quite far from those area that sells auto parts

Thanks for the manual.

Yes - the CBs can be replaced with fuses, but CBs are self resetting and will handle momentary over current situations without tripping. Fuses on the other hand are fast acting and once blown must be replaced.

10A circuit breakers are not too hard to find - they are used on Harley Davidson motorcycles

I keep a couple on hand just for 'what if' situations. They are only $10 each (about the cost of an inline fuse holder and a pkg of 5 fuses). I have seen more circuit breakers fail due to vibration more than any other cause.

The nearest Harley Davidson dealer on my place is Santa Fe, more than an hour drive. Just ordered some online, and it's snowing right now ( I live west of the vales caldera) haha I should have got the fuse holder yesterday, have a gut feeling I need those, just learned 15 mins ago about the story of the quad, it is from his deceased brother he wants it on operation condition that will always remind him of his brother. Gonna check it if its not snowing and not so cold. Thanks for your replies sir gonna keep you guys updated.

It's snowing again, I'm going to run outside as soon as it stops, is that red/white wire enclosed inside the harness? Or can I use the end of it on the junction box?
Looking at the diagram, I can see red/what on ignition switch and left handle bar switch, are those the ones you want me to test if the weather calms down a bit?, I will try later if that's the case.

Thanks
