Insurance

Well, after shopping around (about 6 different phone calls) I accepted the fact it would cost as much to insure my quad as it would my car. No shit.

I couldn't do it. Especially with so many of you paying such a small amount every year.

Naturally every time I'm towing it, I would start to ulcerate. Watch the occasional youtube ATV Crash Spectacle and I would ulcerate.

Then I saw this one:
Let me tell ya, when I saw the remains, I got to feelin' a little queesy. :puke:

That's it, I'm done ulcerating. I contacted USAA and had them work up a quote for my house, car, and quad. Outstanding. Switched from Allstate and now I'm ulcer days are behind me.

$75 a year for full coverage on the Hawkeye through USAA/Progressive

A lot of the people are getting good prices due to multi policy discounts, Paid off machines, Training classes, experience, etc.

Age, Credit, and driving record go into it as well.
Yes full on auto and no on ATV and the insurance on my ATV is only 50 a year. Auto is a lot different now your trying to compare apples to oranges

you're not comparing apples to oranges. You're comparing Gala Apples to Granny smiths. The insurance is treated the same either way.

Sure some car's are worth much more, but when it comes down to it, the risks are the same. Theft, Fire, Accident, Uninsured motorist, Flood, Etc. Tickets reflect on the same record. The only difference is what is being insured.

You can spout nonsense all you want. I'm an insurance agent by trade.
i can't say that i agree with you on some things Thorshammer but you nailed it with this statement. it is comparing apples to apples when you made the bold statement that Most accidents can be avoided it's called defensive driving unless your a reckless individual then accidents are for a reason. following this ridiculous mentality, it shouldn't matter whether you are on the street or the trail as you say most accidents can be avoided unless you're a reckless individual. in this case, i don't see any need for you to carry full coverage on your automobiles.
I'm paying $190 CDN a year for $1,000,000 liability and replacement coverage. That's with no accidents or tickets in over 10 years.
Guys with insurance, is it worth having? When you file a claim does the insurance really step in and cover a atv the way they so when there is a car accident? When I traveled and rode fmx I had it on my bike for the reason of being stolen outta the trailer or van even from the arena we would be at for the weekend. I'm just wondering do they really cover a wreck and the damage?

Ive never personally had to deal with it, but a few guys on the wildcat forum sunk/rolled/hit tree's and totaled their units. Not one had any issues with insurance paying out, most came out very much to the good as far as what insurance paid vs their purchase price.
I bought mine in September and my buddies .... mostly my wife .... but kept telling me to insure it, I just insured it on Friday. Ive put 12 hrs on it since I've had it. Winter is around the corner and I enjoy riding in the freezing cold .... not many friends ride with me ... but frozen ground and the extra slipping and sliding I decided it's time to insure the toy, just hope it's worth it if it's need.

everyone i know that rolled their SxS or ATV never ended up walking away with less. most actually come out ahead somehow.
GREAT Subject ! I'm going get myself some package , here are rates around Chicago - costum is nothing but premium , but I lowered deductible from $500 to $250 ;-)
screenSHU - The fastest screen capture ever.

oooh - and when i scrolled down , ---$3000 accessories cover included ;-)
I'm getting said and done calling progressive soon. Done my research I want it and need it I believe.
just like any other insurance if you have and don't need it you wonder why you pay for it. but if you need it and didn't have it you're kicking yourself for a lifetime.
Well i have it through progressive now ..along with my vehicles. I'll fell better on my next ride.
Just got it this morning, through Markel. $115 a year. Beats the hell out of State Farm at nearly 400.:headache:
Dang I paid 534 for the year! Wonder what's the difference is?
Well, I know that Markel tailors their policies to offroad only for ATVs, so it has nothing you don't really need. If riding on the road, they won't cover you at all-they were very specific on this. Since mine is hardly ever on the road, and if so, it is right behind my house for a little spin, it didn't matter to me. I wanted specifically fire and theft, comprehensive, uninsured, collision, etc. They cover me on my property and on the trail. Of course you can add coverage, change deductibles, etc.
I got the best insurance they offer and $250 deductible
its amazing the difference in rates between companies (of course it depends on your record and where you live). I was paying about 200 a year for full coverage on my 14 850xp le...when I got the RZR 1000s, my full coverage was 1400 per year (progressive..same company I had before)!!! WTF?? They had an accident on record that wasnt mine, so I got that fixed and it dropped it to 900 per year...that was still ridiculous. Called Geico and actually got a bit more coverage (unlimited accessories vs 2k limit with progressive...and accessories add up QUICK on a SxS). Rate is now 347 per year...go figure! Moral of the story, dont compare your rate with someone else's rate (too many variables), but certainly call around to get other quotes from other companies. I think Progressive needs to pay for all those Flo commercials or something...

BTW, I would like to personally thank TrailGuyd and bobX2, for unknowingly pointing me in the right direction with Markel Insurance. I had never heard of them before reading this thread, and for some reason, they never came up when I enter ATV insurance from my browser. I had a bunch of quotes, the least of which was over 300 bucks. I'm all about saving money, and this site has already saved me a bunch. Thanks, guys!
That's why I put a sticky on this thread. Insurance is very important, and lots of people don't know where to look for atv coverage, at a fair price.
Progressive coverage on mine.........think it is about $350 a year.

Would be foolish to not have coverage, not just to cover the cost to damage of MY machine, but for others incase I do have a brain fart on the trail.
I use to have it on my dirt bikes when I traveled and rode fmx, I never had a issue but many friends on the east coast had bikes stolen from events over night or stolen outta the vans at the hotel. I honestly thought mine would be more than 600 a year due to my driving record. Both my vehicles are paid for and I have low coverage on them my renewal is in December so I'll see what I pay yearly on my vehicles. I'm pretty sure I pay more for the quad lol priorities right guys.
