Insurance

Well, after shopping around (about 6 different phone calls) I accepted the fact it would cost as much to insure my quad as it would my car. No shit.

I couldn't do it. Especially with so many of you paying such a small amount every year.

Naturally every time I'm towing it, I would start to ulcerate. Watch the occasional youtube ATV Crash Spectacle and I would ulcerate.

Then I saw this one:
Let me tell ya, when I saw the remains, I got to feelin' a little queesy. :puke:

That's it, I'm done ulcerating. I contacted USAA and had them work up a quote for my house, car, and quad. Outstanding. Switched from Allstate and now I'm ulcer days are behind me.

Just got my statement. Wasn't sure what I paid earlier. $165 annually. $500 deductible and pretty well covered on collision since we're able to ride on county roads. State Farm.

Ridiculous that State Farm wants twice that for me, even though I have everything else through them. I'm about done with SF, and plan to look elsewhere for home and car.

Well I've had the same agent (well now it's his son) since I got my license 38 years ago. That might be some of the reason but yeah insurance is weird. I've had 5 claims in that time. One motorcycle wreck, one motorcycle stolen, one auto and two homeowner claims. Never had any trouble. In fact when I had a tree go through my barn I ended up doing the rebuild myself and got a hot tub out of it.:)
I have full coverage plus accessories from Formost on 2 quads 400ex and Polaris 400 HO 325.00 year. Ill be adding a new 570 soon..
I decided I'd sleep better at night if I had the new toy covered....went through Markel (sp??), full coverage and 3k in accessories for 230ish annually. Everyone else I got quotes from were 2-3x that.

I pay under $150 / year for full coverage thru Markel Insurance. Wouldn't dare ride without it.
I should call them, im paying $250 year with progressive.
Markel for me. 2015 570 is $145.00 a year and my xp1000 is $187.00 a year. Can't afford not to do it.
Finally insured my 850, it's the first time I've ever insured a wheeler (and I've had a bunch). Considering that the wheeler cost more than my car, I thought $180 a year for full coverage was cheap, and they deduct it right out of my my paycheck, so I don't even miss it.
I asked for the best coverage possible I pay $610 a year, I pay $705 a year on both my vehicles ..... so you guys spending 150 200 300 a year be thankful. But I'm fine with spending what I do it's saved me once already.
As a Polaris mechanic, I can't tell you how many pretzeled up ATVs I've seen. The bulk of accidents I've seen are from experienced/careful riders. And, professional repair prices can add up quickly. Most shops in this area (and I'm sure around the USA) charge around $100/hour for labor. I think book time on a frame R/R is 12 hours. That's $1200 before buying any parts. Insurance will cover every nut, bolt, screw, decal, fluids (you get the idea) without much hassle. I know there are many guys that can fix their own stuff as well or better than some dealers, but its rare that it would cost less than an insurance policy. With these machines costing upwards of 10K nowadays, it's crazy to go uncovered.

Another thing is theft. Even if you have a solid/secure garage or shed you keep your machine in, a good thief can outsmart your security system.

There was a local dealer around here that their shop was alarmed and built by one of those steel building companies. So, pretty solid... Anyway, some guys came by in the middle of the night with a sawzall and cut a big hole in the back wall, loaded up a bunch of new machines and off they went.

Oh yeah. My 2016 850 SP is insured by Progressive with full coverage and low deductables for $260/year.

$33 a month on a 2016 scrambler 850. I was told NOT to put the ATV under the same as your vehicles. If you total your atv all your vehicles rates go up also.... food for thought I guess

Never thought of that. I am going to check with my agent on Monday morning.
I have coverage on the house, two cars and the quad added last week. My 1000 added approx. $200 per year.

500,000/3,000/500,000 - same as the cars.
I have been with progressive with just comp. on the machines for the last couple years. I was paying $231 a year for the 800 and the wifes 570. After reading through this thread I decided to give Markel a look. Ended up pulling the insurance off the 800 and putting comp. and collision on both the 570's for $264 a year. Cant beat that. Thanks for the heads up guys.
I just got a quote from progressive for $200 a year with $500 comprehensive $250 collision deductibles on my 2009 850 XP. $16.66 a month isn't too bad.
Just got a quote from Markel.
My 2014 Sportsman 570 is $138 a year and my Boulevard is $118 a year.

I've been paying Progressive $440 a year for both.

Thanks this was the cheapest place by far. 280 bucks for mine. Any ideas on what coverage I need I just picked some numbers. Not sure what I really need though.
I got a quote from Markel for full coverage 50,000 injury and 500 deductible and it was 131.00 for the year. I called All State who I have home/vehicles with. They were 120 for the year and 100k injury and 250.00 deductible, double the coverage half the deductible. I would have saved $7.00 a year if I went with a $500.00 deductible instead of $250.00 LOL. I was expecting them to be a lot higher. When I had my snowmobile with All State years ago it was 380.00 a year.
I pay $256 a year for my 2015 Sportsman 1000 XP
I have Merkal, 13 bucks a month for full coverage w/ property
damage, plus 3k above and beyond bike value, 2016 sportsman 570
