I purchased my first Polaris in fall of 2014 and was thinking that I had bought the best machine on the market, the jury is still out on that. My first trip out, it rained on us and in the morning my machine would barely run and sounded like it was firing on only half of the cylinders. It was flashing error codes that referenced the ECM. I took it to the closest dealer and they reset the computer and it was fine.
Within a few weeks, the rear cab along the right side (over the muffler) melted. The dealer (not where I purchased it) worked with Polaris to replace the rear cab. I got it back to the farm and ran it for 15 minutes and it melted again. This time it melted thru the wiring harness and damaged some of the other cables. Nearly 1 month later, I got it back after they replaced the cab and all the melted wires, cables, etc... and they also added heat shielding above and beyond factory specs. Also the mechanic told me that the exhaust manifold did not have any gaskets coming off the head.
Round 3, I have tried to monitor the heat and shut it down when it starts getting hot which seems to take about 15-20 minutes. After pulling my DR Brush mower (400 lbs of the supposed 1500 lbs tow capacity) for about 45 minutes it completely died. Cab had melted again, not as bad as in the past but now it won't start and keeps blowing fuses when you turn the key. I took it back to the dealer and they have had it for the last three weeks. I call them once a week and they have not even been able to get it started yet. They told me that they needed to order a special tool from Polaris to continue the diagnosis.
I am hoping that Polaris will cover this under "good will" as this issue has never been resolved. However, it seems like many others are having heat issues with this same model but mine seem excessive. I do not ride this thing hard, I keep it in low gear as recommended when driving slow and/or pulling anything. I am wondering two things from the community of other Polaris users out there. 1.) Has anyone else had similar problems which the dealer was actually able to solve? 2.) What recommendations do people have on selling/trading this thing when I do finally get it back?
I spoke to the Kansas AG office today and they encouraged me to file a formal complaint. The dealer I have been working with locally has been great and I don't want to burn them on this but after spending over $12K on a vehicle that has spent more time in the shop than doing its job, I am just about ready to pull the trigger on that. Waiting on a call back from the owner today to see if he has any other ideas that will resolve this for me.
If you did a bit of research before you bought, you would find that the 1000 has had heat issues since day 1. Not excusing the problem, there should be a recall on the complete exhaust.
if i had a dime every time he tried acting like a know it all and ended up making a dick out of himself in the process, i could go buy another new quad.
All the 1000s run hot My first Can Am did and all the sportsman's except flat landers do. The only Polaris 1000 that doesn't is the Scrambler . May be the Flat Lander could help hear.:bee:
if you actually had a clue, there are guys having heat issues with the scrambler 850s and 1000s too. it just isn't as common as the sportsman 1000. you've failed again.
lol, at what point did i ever say or claim mine has 100 hp?? never happened but you and silvermax must share the same brain cell because both of you don't have a clue about the shit you both spew.
So...I finally spoke with the owner of the local Polaris dealership (RideNow Powersports in Olathe, KS). He made me a deal that I am happy with. They took my machine in trade for a new 2016 hunter edition 1000 XP and I picked it up on Saturday. It will take a while to get it broken in properly before I will be able to compare apples to apples so to speak but for the short time I rode on Saturday it stayed much cooler than the one I had problems with.
I am going to postpone judging Polaris until I have confirmed the new machine is working properly but I can say that the dealership worked hard to make this right for me and would do business with them again. Once this thing gets broken in I will let you all know the results. Thank you for all the input!
Just wanted to updated you all on the status. I finally got to 25 hours on my machine. I have been towing the mower and using the Kolpin Dirtworks system to establish some food plots for this fall. So far so good. The machine still gets hot as hell which is to be expected to some extent for the 1000 but no melted plastic! I have definitely been keeping a close eye on the temperature when using it vs. just assuming it will be able to handle some basic tasks like this without overheating. On occasion if it feels too hot, I will drop the mower and run it around the farm to get the air moving and that seems to help tremendously. Airflow is definitely a major deal with this ATV. I may replace the exhaust at some point in the future but do not feel the need to do so right now. Thank you for all the comments and advice.
I have less than 80 hours on my 2015 1000 xp, yesterday after 1/2 hour of minor trail riding, we parked the bike. 15 minutes later I heard the bike start by itself, key was in the off position, wouldn't shut off, finally shut off, pulled the cover to find the electrical/relay box smoking. I immediately unhooked the battery but too late, looking like I need a new wiring harness. Local dealer was not originally helpful anxious to visit them on Tuesday, this is a Polaris issue and we will see what kind of company they are.
My guess: you're on your own with this. Unfortunately, I doubt Polaris is going to do anything for you. That's bizarre though that the quad started on its own.:wtf:
I have a 2016 sportsman 1000 xp and have had zero issues with heat. No melting plastics, no hot legs, no over heating , no red hot exhaust, no nothing. To be quite honest, my machine barely throws any heat near my legs and ankles . (Now my girlfriends 570 thats a different story!!) Am I the only one who has had a great machine?
