Hi. I have a 2000 Trailboss 325. I was turning on a different trail yesterday and there is a bit of an incline but nothing I couldn't handle in the past. I was going up it at a slow pace cause I just turned. It proceeded to lose momentum and roll backwards and I had to break hard. My buddy was riding behind me and we were both confused what had happened. I tried again with caution ready to stop myself and there was some smoke coming out both sides kind of from in front of the engine. I thought at that moment I had water in the belt box from a creek a ways back but it wasn't acting like it usually does when I get water in there. I backed up and got enough momentum to get up. Keep in mind that the engine was running fine and didn't bog. I wasn't far from home so I went really slow. Today I started it up and drove it to the garage from the backyard and it still lost power trying to get up certain parts of my yard. I now have the belt box off and the clutch looks fine and the belt looks fine. What should I do?

Check your motor mounts. They may visually look ok but still be broken. Grab the engine and see if you can move it in the frame. If a mount is broken the engine will trust and tge belt will remain loose. If the mounts are solid leave tge belt cover off and Rev the engine with the transmission in neutral to verify the clutch is working properly.

I would service the clutches and install a new belt, OEM is my recommendation but a lot of guys like the gates belts.
