Machine- '06 Sportsman 500

I forgot to bring the key to start the machine!

How do I start it without the key?

I did it before but I don't remember how!

Part of it involved taking the ignition switch off and I think I jumpered the terminals but just don't remember.

Any ideas?

Figured it out

- Remove the lamp/instrument cluster housing top part (3 Philips screws)

- Remove the key switch assembly (1 plastic nut)

- Remove electrical connector that attaches to the switch assembly

- There are 4 terminals (female)

- Find the one with the 12 V (the wire is solid red) (let's call it "1")

- Put a jumper between "1" and the terminal next to it (let's call it "2")

- At this point your instrument panel will light up

- Install a jumper from the terminal that is at the opposite end of the terminal bundle. Let's call it "4"

- Touch the jumper from "4" to "1" and the engine will crank and hopefully (in your case) start.

- Once the engine is running REMOVE the jumper from "4" to "1" (you should only have to "untouch" the jumper since it wasn't plugged into "1")

- To shut down- slide the kill switch

- Route the terminal strip/bundle down through the instrument cluster so that it's on the outside of the cluster and you can get to it easily for starting.

- Put the cluster housing cover back on and secure with the three screws.

seems like you could wire a push button in to make the connection from 1 to 4. Then it would be a permanent push button start.

Well, it's a lot more theft proof than my sled. Pull the plug off the back of the key switch, pull the rope, and it's running!

This should almost be a "sticky"
