Hello, I just bought my first atv. Sportsman 500HO 2013. My question is, when im riding in snow or mud do i use high or low gear? I mean if im driving in deep snow like i have been. Do i use low or high? Im scared to hold the gas down in low gear! I feel like its not good for the bike to be full throttle in low gear.
:hmmm:

Low gear is for slow speed, heavy load, and work situations for the most part. Snow can be a tricky decision. Light snow and high speed can be ok in high. Working it hard in wet snow can be hard on it in high. Mud should be low for sure. Don't worry about the engine RPM. The clutching will keep it from over revving and damaging anything, and it will rev higher in low gear. Nothing wrong with it.

It depends on how fast your going. If you are going slow and plodding then low, if your going fast and spinning wheels then high is fine.

Is the motor broken in? I wouldn't be running it hard until you get some hours on it first.

I had it for a 2 weeks. Im not going hard much. Its just a few spots have deep snow. I got stuck a few times. I just dont know if when im stuck if i should have it in low or high when im hitting the gas hard to try to get unstuck. Like high rpms in low. Thats ok?
