My project is getting newer one part at a time. I need to replace the lower steering bushing and hope someone can give me some tips. Does anyone know what needs to be done to remove the old bushing and install the new one? There is a large bolt at the bottom of the steering shaft that will need to be removed. Once that is loose will the steering shaft slide up a few inches to replace the bushing? I appreciate any info that will keep me from wasting time. Thanks.

You have to take everything loose from the steering stem to get it up out of the way. The tie rods, pod and handlebars all have to come off. Its been a while since I did one but I think you can leave all the controls on the bars and just lay them back out of the way. The cables and wiring won't allow enough slack to get to it without removing everything I don't think. The bushing is mounted with 2 rivets that have to be drilled or ground out. New rivets should be included with the new bushing and you also have to get your rivet gun in there to install them. They are steel rivets and require pretty good effort and a good riveter to attach.

Thanks. The old rivets were no longer tight and moving around with the bushing. I ground them off yesterday and replaced with small bolts that are the same diameter. I have had a horrible shake at higher speeds. I discovered the tie rod ends were worn out and one shock was shot. The lower bushing is the last part in the steering with slop and I hope it fixes the issue.
